GLEDHOLT TRIP October 2009

We had been anticipating this trip and the strengthening of our long friendship with the Gledholt Male Voice Choir for some time and it turned out to be just the pleasurable short weekend we had hoped for, thanks again to the careful arrangements of Trevor Transport and the immaculate work of Lynne our (real) Lady Driver. (or as Alwyn put it “Boss y Bus” )

A good deal of work had gone into preparing for our arrival in Rastrick too.  The logistics of moving two choirs around the parish church of St. John the Evangelist in a tidy silence and getting them together for joint items was a work of art in itself; and we were right royally nourished in the hall after the concert, and also lightly (but not too lightly) lubricated for the after Concert, concert.  That was the joy of it all    -   the singing at both with a very good choir and each enjoying Olwen and Tudor and Garry our soloists and the best of each other’s sound and repertoire.

It began in the church with our,  “A yw fy enw I lawr”  alongside the Gledholt Musical Director’s arrangement of  “You raised me up”  and, of our united pieces, the one that really brought us together and the audience to its feet, the singing of  “Amen”  from opposite ends of the church.!   During the interval we had heard that an anonymous donor had put up £500 for the church if we could meet the challenge. No sweat!

All that and then afterwards in the Hall, among a lot of other favourites, the “Yorkshire Lass “ alongside yr “Anthem Geltaidd” and a united “Rachie” just about sums it all up.

Another truly memorable and enjoyable away trip with our wives and partners and the choristers even survived having them loose in the Oswaldtwistle Shopping Outlet!
